Abstract

Language plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of ethnic identity. Ethnicity has a stronger relationship with language than other social factors such as gender, age, or social class. Thus, language is only one factor in the ethno-linguistic description of a nation or ethnic group. Language is a fundamental and ever-present feature of ethnicity. Without language, you would have
a complete description of ethnicity. Language is a key component of ethnicity.
